All hunts are conducted on private ranches. Management of the game herds is a crucial element in consistently producing trophy western big game animals for our clientele. Some ranches do have parcels of BLM and National Forest on or adjacent to the ranches, but access is strictly controlled by the private property.

Our goal at Powder Horn Outfitters is to provide the best opportunity for hunters to harvest trophy western big game on their hunt. Also, being comfortable, not only in the camps, but with the people running the operation is crucial for an enjoyable and memorable hunt. We hope you take the time to contact us for your western trophy big game adventure.

Wyoming Archery Deer and Elk

September 1st-30th

All archery hunts are ran on the west slope of the Bighorn Mountains and are 1-on-1. Deer hunts begin the first day of September and run to the 15th of September. Spot and stalk method of hunting is utilized. The high elevation sage brush bowls and timbered canyons supply ample cover to approach high country bucks within bow range.

Archery deer and elk combo hunts and straight elk hunts begin the 15th of September and run to the end of the month. The timing is set to hit the rut, bugle season, to increase the chance of harvesting a trophy bull. Sitting over active wallows and calling are the methods used for elk hunting during this time.
